Dr. Nelson Visits Olive St.
Dr. Nelson, the great Porterville Unified School District Superintendent, honored us with his visit on Friday, October 4, 2019. He was welcomed by Maria Hidalgo: the Student Council Communication Director, Aylin Chavez: the Student Council Secretary, and Marely Ceballos: the Head of the Webineers, along with the school principal, Mrs. Torres.
During his visit, we had the opportunity to briefly interview Dr. Nelson. During the interview, he gladly shared that his favorite part about his job is being able to get out of his office and visit the different school sites and interact with school site staff and students. He also said that he really loves seeing what students are doing and all the hard work they have been accomplishing at different levels.
Also, Dr. Nelson shared some of his educational background. He stated that he has been working with the Porterville District for 20 years now. He first started when he was a high student at Porterville High School. Regarding his college experience, Dr. Nelson said he switched colleges on one occasion. This happened early on when he started at UCSD then transferred to CSUB. He continued his education at Fresno State. In the end, he finished his education at USC, where he earned his doctorate degree. He continued by stating that he really enjoyed learning many things and many different topics.
To conclude, the message Dr. Nelson gives to the scholars at Olive Elementary is that they can do anything they desire in life as long as they try hard to achieve it.
